It is one of the famous Ayat of the Holy Quran present in Surah Al-Ambiya, Ayat no. 87, which is also known as Ayat e Karima and the Dua of Prophet Yunus (AS).
As every Muslim knows that Prophet Yunus (AS) was in the abdomen of the fish for 40 days and with the prosperities of Ayat e Karima and blessings of Allah (ﷻ), He went out.
Prophet Yunus (AS) recited ‘La Ilaha Illa Anta Subhanaka Inni Kuntu Minaz Zalimin‘ diligently during those tough times, we can also recite this dua to overcome any anxiety or tribulations.
Hazrat Saad (RA) narrated that the Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said the fish man, the dua of Prophet Yunus (AS) that He supplicates in the abdomen of the fish. If anyone supplicates to Allah (ﷻ) with this dua, Allah (ﷻ) will accept their dua. (Jami At-Tirmidhi:3505)
La Ilaha Illa Anta Subhanaka Inni Kuntu Minaz Zalimin Meaning
This dua is also knowns as Ayat e Karima which means “There is no good but you, exalted are you, Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers”
This verse in the Holy Quran describes that when the fisherman became enraged and believed that We would not impose anything on him.
He walked out in a rage, and from the depths of the darkness, he said “There is no good but you, exalted are you, Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers”
As a result, We responded to him and rescued him from his predicament and We save the believers.
If you have listened to the famous story of Prophet Yunus (AS), you’ll know that he gave up on his people and opted to leave Nineveh without Allah (ﷻ) permission.
In the hopes of finding a city that would welcome him and the Islamic message more rapidly but His ship members throw Him into the ocean and a fish swallowed Him.
He cried out in this moment, remembering Allah, worshipping Allah, and acknowledging his own flaws in the matter by declaring, “Indeed, I have been among the wrongdoers.”
Allah had then relieved him after viewing the true and honest apology. This is the reason why Prophet Yunus (AS) goes into the belly of fish.

Benefits of La Ilaha Illa Anta Subhanaka Inni Kuntu Minaz Zalimin
This short dua includes the concept of Tawheed, which is one of Islam’s most basic fundamental. You are knowingly and purposefully stating that Allah (ﷻ) is the sole deity, the elevated, by reciting this dua.
You then demonstrate your humility by acknowledging your flaws and weaknesses. We should always be repenting to Allah (swt) whenever we get the opportunity.
We’re all guilty of squandering our time; some of us are better than us, but we can all do better. We should all try to spend at least a little time reciting this dua.
Get Saved from Persecution
Reciting this dua has immense benefits but most preferably, it is much useful for a person who is persecuted or oppressed by a person, group of people, or community.
An oppressors dua is much effective in the way Allah (ﷻ), as Allah (ﷻ) itself considered persecution as Haram (forbidden) in Islam, so supplicate your afflictions with this dua.
Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said that Allah (ﷻ) decree that O my worshippers I have considered persecution as Haram on Myself and I have also considered persecution as Haram in between you, so don’t do persecution on each other. (Sahih Muslim: 6737)
Oppression indulges in darkness even on the day of judgment, as Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said, persecution will be in the face of darkness on the day of judgment. (Sahih Bukhari: 2447)
That’s why ‘La Ilaha Illa Anta Subhanaka Inni Kuntu Minaz Zalimin’ is an extraordinary dua for the oppressed people who have been persecuted by the oppressors.
Saved from Oppressor Punishment
Allah (ﷻ) did not give comprehension (Hidayat) to the oppressors, and their heart gets solid and good deeds don’t affect them, and even they didn’t succeed and Allah (ﷻ) don’t love them.
Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said on the day of judgment a person will come who will have the expectation that he will get salvation based on his good deeds (Nekiyan).
Therefore, the people will come on which he had done persecution and they will keep taking his good deeds, even that his all goodness will be finished.
After this one more persecuted person will come and now as the oppressors all good deeds are finished, so the sins of the persecuted person will be discarded into the oppressor account.
Allah (ﷻ) said many times in the Holy Quran that the oppressor’s conclusion will not be good, as said “Indeed, there are painful punishments for the oppressors. (Surah Ibrahim: 22)

Escape from the curse of the oppressed
Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said to escape from the curse of the oppressed person as it is lifted onto the clouds, Allah (ﷻ) said I swear of my dignity honor and majesty that I will definitely help you even though in a little late.
It means that it may take a little time to get helped as there is always sapience wisdom (Hikmat) in every decision of Allah (ﷻ) but surely the oppressed dua will be listened and helped.
Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said even though the oppressed person is non-Muslim (Kafir) then also be saved from his curse because there is no curtain in front of him.
In another Hadith, it comes that be saved from the curse of an oppressed person, as it gets up towards the sky as sparks.
