Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum: Bi Rahmatika Astaghees – Meaning & Benefits

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum is the two greatest names of Allah (ﷻ), also considered Isme Azam by many Islamic scholars of the world.

Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) said the greatest name (Isme Azam) of Allah is in three Surah of the Quran and that is Surah Al-Baqarah, Surah Al-e-Imran, Surah Taha.

Through which the Dua of the person will be fulfilled if he prays to Allah (ﷻ) by taking those names. (Ibn e Maja-Hakim, Jamia Al Saghir)

Therefore if you recite the first line of Ayatul Kursi, which is in Surah Al-Baqarah, you’ll get these two greatest names of Allah.

Hazrat Abu Imama (RA) told that I searched Isme Azam according to the sayings of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) and I found it 3 Ayat.

  • Ayat 255 of Surah Al-Baqarah “Allahu laaa Ilaaha Illaa Huwal Hayyul Qayyumu”
  • Ayat 2 of Surah Al-e-Imran “Allahu laaa Ilaaha Illaa Huwal Hayyul Qayyumu”
  • Ayat 111 of Surah Taha “Wa Anatil Wujuhu Lil Hayyil Qayyum”

In another narration or anecdote (Riwayat) of Hadith, the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said the greatest names of Allah (ﷻ) is in these two Ayat.

  • Wa Ilahukum Ilahuw Wahid, La Ilaha Illa Huwar Rahmanur Rahim.
  • Alif Laam Meem, Allahu laaa Ilaaha Illaa Huwal Hayyul Qayyumu.

Imam Tirmidhi (RA) stated that this is an authentic Hadith because the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) used to recite this diligently in His Dua.

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Meaning

The full version of this Dua or Zikr is “Ya-Hayyu Ya-Qayyum Bi Rahmatika Astaghees” which means “O Living, O Self-Sustaining Sustainer! In Your Mercy do I seek relief”

Hazrat Ibn Masood (RA) narrated that whenever the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) had a hard time or in distress, Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) recites this Dua.

Hazrat Abdullah Bin Masood (RA) also narrated that whenever the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) had any problem or affliction, Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite this Dua. (Al-Hakim)

Hazrat Ali Al-Murtaza (RA) narrated that on the day of Badr (first battle of Islam), I battled for some time and went to see what Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) was doing.

I reached there and saw that the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) was in prostration (Sujood) and reciting Ya-Hayyu Ya-Qayyum, I returned to the battle.

I came again to see the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) and the Prophet (ﷺ) was reciting the same Dua and then Allah (ﷻ) granted us victory over our enemies. (Al-HAkim)

Completes the Wish

Imam Baihaqi (RA) narrated from Hazrat Anas (RA) that I was sitting with the Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) and nearby a man was praying.

After the Ruku, Prostration (Sujood) and Tashahhud he recited some supplication (Dua) and he supplicated this Dua,

“Allahumma Inni As Aluka Bi Anna Lakal Hamd,

La Ilaha Illa Antal Mannanu Badi Us Samawati Wal Ard,

Ya Zal Jalali Wal Ikram, Ya-Hayyu Ya-Qayyum! Inni As Aluka”

Onto this Dua Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said this man called upon Allah (ﷻ) by His greatest name, of which if Allah (ﷻ) is called by He gives and responds. (Abu-Dawood)

Sins will be Forgiven

Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (RA) narrated that the Prophet Mohammad (ﷺ) said, he who says “Astaghfirulla Hallazi La Ilaha Illa Huwal Hayyul Qayyumu” before sleeping,

His sins will be forgiven if they are as much as the foam of the sea. (Al-Baihaqi)

Make Spoiled Works

Ala Hazrat Rahmatullahi Ta’ala Ilaih said if a person wants Allah (ﷻ) to make all his spoiled works good then he should recite this short dua.

“Ya-Hayyu Ya-Qayyum Bi Rahmatika Astaghees Fala Taqilni

Ila Nafsi Tar Fata Ainin Wa Asleh Lih Shani Qullah”

The person who will recite this once, Allah (ﷻ) will make his spoliled work. InshaAllah!

Islamic scholar Mufti Azam-e-Hind Rahmatullahi Ta’ala Ilaih itself is seen reciting this Dua in His lifespan.

Ya Hayyu Wazifa 100 times

If a person is sick or ill from any of the diseases and if he recites this wazifa, then it can make him healthy and will help him in his cure with the blessing of Allah (ﷻ).

  • Recite Durood Sharif once
  • Recite Ya Hayyu 100 times
  • Again Recite Durood Sharif

There is not any suitable or dedicated time to recite it, the sick person can recite it every day until he gets better.

Ya Qayyum Wazifa for Health

The person who will recite the great name of Allah (ﷻ) “Ya Qayyum” diligently in the morning, then will be given good health and will become healthy.

There is no quantity in which you have to recite, you may just recite it diligently in the morning that refers after midnight to before the sun rises.

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum Wazifa for Wealth

If you are suffering from poverty and lack of sustenance (Rizq) then this can bring immense prosperity for you and your family.

After the Salah of Ashr you will have to recite this wazifa while being in ablution (Wuzu) only on Sunday.

InshaAllah by following this Allah (ﷻ) will provide you immense sustenance (Rizq) and Prosperities. You may also recite it any time while doing anything for better Rizq.

Although it is enough for a muslim that these names belongs to Allah then no dought it is beneficial for us and are the greatest.. but to know the history and background of the dua it feels more attached with the dua.. I used to recite this & Ayat e Kareema when ever in any tension, problmen, confusion or any difficulty in my life and always find a solution or I get the strenght / way to handle that situation.
